Notable for its Star Safety System, Tacoma features Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control and Break Assist. Vehicle Stability Control prevents wheel slip and safeguards in adverse situation. In such situations, the Break Assist increases break pressure helping to stop an accident.
The 2009 Toyota Tacoma comes standard with a 2.7 liter engine producing 159 horsepower and 180 Ib-ft of torque. It boasts a five-speed manual transmission with an optional four-speed automatic transmission.

The 2009 Toyota Tacoma is leading the way towards a safer generation of pickups. Building on the standard Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), the 2009 Toyota Tacoma features the STAR Safety System – adding Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution and Brake Assist.
VSC is designed to keep the truck under control in adverse situations by preventing wheel slip. During emergency situations, Brake Assist increases brake pressure, helping the driver take control of the situation. The 2009 Tacoma also sports standard airbags in the front and rear – as well as active headsets to help prevent phone related accidents.
